aboutMiska

Miska Carlberg-Paget is a 1998 magna cum laude graduate of Colorado State University. Following her completion of veterinary school, she completed an internship in equine neonatal and perinatal medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Wendy Vaala at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in Ringoes, New Jersey.

Nearly a year as a resident in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the University of California at Davis reinforced her love for private practice, and she left the university to practice as an associate veterinarian with a busy large animal practice in east San Diego County. In 2006, Dr. Paget established Giddy-Up Large Animal Veterinary Practice with the goal of providing a "home-town" veterinarian for the people of Ramona and its surrounding areas.

Dr. Paget enjoys all facets of large animal medicine and has a particular interest in reproductive medicine and internal medicine. Providing care to the very young and the very old are her favorite endeavors. It is a rare moment when Dr. Paget is NOT surrounded by animals…when she is not working, she and her husband, Keith are usually at the ranch with their 12 horses, 6 dogs, 4 goats, 2 pet pigs, her pet chicken (Princess Sophia) and Bubba the tortoise! Truly, animals are her life!

Miska Paget is a 1998 magna cum laude graduate of Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  She has, over the last 20 + years, worked at a referral center in New Jersey caring for high risk pregnant mares and compromised neonatal foals, obtained some specialty training in internal medicine from UC Davis and worked for a very busy, multi-veterinarian large animal practice in Southern California.  Additionally, she has owned and operated two veterinary practices of her own:  the first in Ramona, California and now, currently she owns Williamson Valley Large Animal Veterinary Practice in Prescott, Arizona.  All of these years of vetting and "living the life" have provided this spunky, smiling cowgirl with plenty of inspiration for her passion as a poet and story teller.  Miska is as at home on stage as she is in the barnyard providing veterinary care for a goat or mounted horseback on a trail ride with her husband, Keith.  She brings her genuine, real life sense of humor and love of veterinary medicine and the Western way of life to her writing and performances.

For years, she has enjoyed sharing poetry with friends and family, and Miska began publically sharing her poetry at cowboy poetry gatherings and private functions in 2019.  Her debut poetry album, released in 2021, has been a top five nominee by the International Western Music Assocation for Cowboy Poetry Album of the Year in 2021 and in 2022.  In 2022, the album achieved the honor of being the IWMA Cowboy Poetry CD of the Year  Miska was also voted by her IWMA peers as a top five nominee for female cowboy poet of the year in 2022.
